FAQs

What will happen on my first visit (Osteopathic Treatment)?

Osteopaths assist in the recovery from pain and injury, and improve general wellbeing through gentle “hands on” therapy, advice on posture, activites of daily life, exercise and diet.

During the initial consult your Osteopath will ask questions and examine you for any pathology or injury as well as stiffness, weakness, strength and patterns of muscle support. We ask that you please download and complete the first visit form, and bring it with you to streamline your first visit.

The findings will be discussed with you to develop a treatment plan that will assist recovery, reduce pain and improved your general well being. Strategies to prevent re-occurance can also be discussed.

How will I feel after treatment?

We aim to improve function, pain and mobility to our patients with every treatment. Occasionally, you may be more aware of your symptoms for a short time following treatment. This is due to the chemical release of substances within the tissues associated with making a change in the body. This is a normal response and will resolve within 24-48 hours.

What should I wear?

Depending on the area of your body requiring treatment, your Osteopath may ask you to undress to your underwear. Shorts are provided, however, you may bring your own. It is important that you feel comfortable, and draping with towels during treatment is performed.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you do not. Many patients are referred to osteopaths by their doctors, other health practitioners or personal trainers. However, as osteopaths are primary care practitioners, you can make an appointment directly without a referral.
